Chandler and Fernor: Choosing for Your Climate
Chandler was developed in the USA and Fernor in France. Both bear on lateral shoots. Leafing, flowering and maturity patterns differ; dates recorded abroad cannot be applied unchanged to every orchard in Türkiye.
Do not select a variety by altitude alone. Assess frost dates, winter chilling, summer temperatures, soil and irrigation together. Harvest timing and yield vary locally; select pollenizers by overlapping flowering periods.
Franquette and Fernette may be considered for Chandler; Fernette and Ronde de Montignac for Fernor, subject to local flowering overlap. A single altitude threshold or fixed pollenizer percentage is not a guarantee for every orchard.
